Other (finance, culture, sports)

Sectors with a physical base, such as agriculture or transport, do not operate in isolation. They exist to meet human needs, provide services, and shape our lifestyles. Among these needs: practicing sports, taking part in cultural activities…

The French Economy Transformation Plan as a compass for the transition

The French Economy Transformation Plan (PTEF) is fully rooted in a forward-looking approach. It puts forward pragmatic proposals, charting a realistic and coherent path toward decarbonization within a broader long-term transformation. It does not rely on the uncertain bet of economic growth, nor on technological developments that are assumed to emerge but have not yet been proven. To remain consistent with the laws of physics and technology, the PTEF takes into account the interconnections between sectors — particularly regarding physical resources and skills — with employment at the heart of the framework

Culture, Sport and Finance at the core of the Shift's work

The Shift Project also works on other sectors and cross-cutting issues, often connected to these major physical-base sectors (agriculture, transport, buildings…), and which underpin activities such as culture, public administration, sport, or finance. Until 2020, we also worked on financial topics, which we now leave to others who specialize in them (such as I4CE). And, to be fully transparent, it is rather convenient to keep a “miscellaneous” category: here it is — enjoy the exploration!

Culture

The cultural sector shapes both imagination and reality. But it depends on sectors such as agriculture, energy, and mobility, all of which must undergo profound transformations to reduce emissions. Culture must evolve alongside them, or risk seeing its role in society undermined if these challenges are ignored.

Sport

The Decarbonizing Sport program seeks to transform French sport in response to physical constraints: reducing greenhouse gas emissions to limit global warming, and ending dependence on fossil fuels.
