Context

Half of conventional oil resources, the majority of natural gas resources and almost all coal resources should remain underground if humanity is to succeed in limiting global warming to 2 ° C, CO2 capture and storage included. Almost all non-conventional hydrocarbons – including shale gas – should remain untapped, according to the analysis of two researchers from University College London published in the journal Nature on January 8, 2015.
